Caring for you

There is a choice of maternity care. It may be provided totally by your midwife, by your midwife and GP or by your midwife and obstetric Consultant. When admitted to hospital you will be admitted under a named Consultant

Midwifery-led care

Midwives provide most of the care for you during your normal pregnancy, delivery and postnatal period as well as caring for your new baby. Midwives work in partnership with women and their families to provide care in the community, at home and in hospital. You will know the name of the midwife who is responsible for your midwifery care and you will be advised on how to contact her if the need arises.

Shared care

In this instance midwives and GP's work closely to provide you with shared care.

Obstetric consultant-led care

Your medical and obstetric background may mean that a Consultant Obstetrician will need to be closely involved in your care. This care is provided at Ysbyty Gwynedd, Bangor while peripheral antenatal Consultant clinics are held throughout North West Wales.
