INTRODUCTION

Here you’ll find details of the services provided by the Trust. Ranging from Accident and Emergency to Dermatology, Midwifery to Physiotherapy and Psychology to X-ray. Services are provided by Directorates and Departments:

Surgical Directorate

Services for inpatients and daycases are provided at both Ysbyty Gwynedd and Llandudno Hospital with theatres, day surgery and wards at both sites. Outpatient services are provided at Ysbyty Gwynedd, Llandudno General Hospital, Blaenau Ffestiniog, Pwllheli, Dolgellau, and Penrhos Stanley Hospital, Holyhead.

Medical Directorate

The Medical Directorate co-ordinates a range of elective and emergency services at both Ysbyty Gwynedd and Llandudno General Hospital, and much of the activity revolves around dealing with emergency medical admissions.

As well as all the services you’d expect from a District General Hospital, the directorate manages a number of recently built specialist units including a new Rapid access chest pain clinic, the Coronary Care Unit, the Alaw Unit which specialises in cancer and haematology and Elidir, which specialises in Renal Medicine.

Community Hospitals and Rehabilitation Directorate

Services provided from our Community Hospitals include GP, rehabilitation as well as some palliative care beds. They also provide outpatient services, as well as some diagnostic and investigative procedures. Because of the nature of the area, and the distances patients have to travel to the main clinical centres, telemedicine plays a valuable role, allowing patients to receive a diagnosis without always having to travel long distances.

Community based rehabilitation schemes are operated as well as rapid response schemes. Some of our community hospitals also provide minor injury services. Underpinning the work of the Community Hospitals and Rehabilitation Directorate are the community nursing and therapy teams across the Trust’s area.

Diagnostic and Clinical Support Directorate

The Directorate brings together the departments of Pathology, Radiology, Pharmacy, Outpatients, Medical Records and the Social Work Secretariat. Services are based mainly at Ysbyty Gwynedd and Llandudno General Hospital, but there are also radiology services operated from some community sites.

Women and Families Directorate

The Directorate offers an integrated and comprehensive service for families and children, and aims to promote the highest possible standards of care for women, children and their families. The Directorate employs about 400 staff who work in both acute and community settings and deliver services at Ysbyty Gwynedd, community hospitals, clinics, GP practices, schools and in the home.

Mental Health and Learning Disability Directorate

A comprehensive range of services have been developed with strong links to Unitary Authorities and the User and Voluntary Sectors. The Learning Disability service is based at Bryn y Neuadd in Llanfairfechan and provides long term care for adults. A re-settlement programme for residents has been re-started by the Welsh Assembly Government.

Adult mental health services are built around community teams, with inpatient care being provided in the Hergest Unit on the Ysbyty Gwynedd site, at Carreg Fawr in Bryn Y Neuadd, and in two local bed units in Llangefni and Barmouth.

The site is also home to Ty Llywelyn, a Forensic Psychiatric Service medium secure unit with 25 beds. Other services provided include Substance Misuse, Counselling in primary care, services for the elderly mentally ill and a child and adolescent services.

Nursing and Healthcare Governance Directorate

The Nursing and Healthcare Governance Directorate has been formed from the Nursing Directorate and the Quality and Clinical Assurance Directorate.  The focus of the Directorate is the patient experience and supporting the delivery of high quality care.
