Main Theatres

The facilities within the main theatre division are located on both the Trust’s acute sites. They include 13 theatres divided into 4 suites at Ysbyty Gwynedd and two theatres at Llandudno General Hospital.

The main theatres at Ysbyty Gwynedd provide surgical facilities for all elective and emergency work in the following specialties:

• Obstetrics and Gynaecology
• General Surgery (including Urology, Vascular, Breast, Colorectal and Upper GI)
• Trauma and Orthopaedics
• ENT
• Maxillo-Facial
• Ophthalmics

Further services supported are pain control, pacemakers, bone marrow harvesting and community dental.

Recovery facilities support all surgery, overflow ITU patients and paediatric emergencies awaiting transfer to regional centres.

Sterile Services Department

The Sterile Services Deaprtment provides a service to theatres, wards, clinics and community hospitals.  Its purpose is to decontaminate medical devices / instruments that come into contact with patients, to prevent the transmission of infection.
