Health Visitors are qualified nurses with special training in Child Health and Health Promotion / Education. They are based in surgeries or clinics within the community, working closely with other professionals. Health Visitors will offer practical support and advice in different situations. As well as visiting new babies and families at home, they aim to provide for the health of the whole community by: - Identifying health needs within the local community.
- Being in contact with parents before and after birth.
- Establishing an individual partnership with each client to advise on parenting, nutrition, development, behaviour management, emotional and psychological health e.g. "baby blues" and prevention of illness, infection and injury.
Health Visitors will also support individuals and families with special needs, be involved in screening and immunisation programmes and plan and promote health promotion programmes e.g. group activities. Other aspects of Health Visiting include Child Protection / Children's Act issues, relationship problems e.g. domestic violence and participating in research and the education and training of students. |
