Dolgellau Hospital - View location map 
The opening ceremony of a new cottage hospital for the Dolgellau and Barmouth district took place on the 26th June 1929. Built at a cost in excess of £5,000 - this included modern equipment. Mrs Dowthwaite of Aberdyfi subscribed £1,500 towards the fund, and also promised £500 towards X-ray equipment. It had taken 9 years to raise the money for building the hospital which included a maternity ward, which was very much needed. The front of the hospital faces the river Wnion and consisted of a female ward, male ward, 2 private wards, a maternity ward on an upper floor, accommodation for the matron and staff, anaesthetic room, X-ray equipment, an operating theatre and a children's ward. - In 1933 Sir Charles Phibbs laid the foundation for the first extension.
- In 1937 Colonel and Mrs Enthoven gave monies received for their Silver Wedding towards building a Children's Ward.
- In 1938 the foundation stone for the second extension of the theatre block was laid.
- In 1964 the clinics were moved from the hospital site to the existing Outpatients Department.
- In 1974 the present General Unit (Cader and Mawddach wards) were opened and both Dolgellau and Barmouth Maternity Homes closed and moved up to the Maternity Unit at the hospital.
- In 1982 the Day Hospital was extended with the help of the League of Friends.
- In 1987 an extension for a sun lounge was commenced with a proposed cost of £20,000 given by the League of Friends.
- 1998 saw the opening of a new Maternity Unit with the old site renovated to house an EMI Unit for Meirionnydd, which was officially opened in November of that year.
