In February 1996 the new community hospital in Holyhead became operational, replacing the Valley Hospital and the former Stanley Sailors Hospital provided at a cost of £7.3 million, the hospital includes many features which provide all therapeutic aspects within a friendly atmosphere. Maximum advantage has been taken of the location, which affords panoramic sea views from most of the patient areas. The remainder of the accommodation overlooks internal courtyards, which are used both for relaxation and therapy. The focus throughout has been to achieve a high level of privacy and to create a non-stressful environment. The inpatient specialities are Care of the Elderly, GP Medical and Elderly Mentally Infirm. The rehabilitation department provides outpatient and inpatient physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech and language therapy, and chiropody. Consultant outpatient and community clinics are held and dental and X-ray services provided. The minor injuries service has a self-contained suite with two treatment rooms. The Child Development Team occupy a suite of rooms overlooking the sea, providing a service with the necessary space to house equipment, aids and a multi-sensory area with fibre-optic lighting.
