Tywyn Hospital - View location map

Tywyn Hospital was built in the 1920's by public subscription as a memorial to those who lost their lives in the 1st World War. The foundation stone was laid Mrs David Lloyd George on 11th August 1920 and the hospital opened by Dr Alban Davies on 17th August 1922. In 1932 a maternity unit was built.

The Tywyn Hospital Appeal Fund raised £32,000 and a continuing care ward (Dyfi) was added which was opened in 1973 by HRH Prince Phillip. Further developments funded by the Appeal Fund included refurbishment of General Medical Ward (Dysynni), refurbishments to the Minor Injuries Unit and improvements to main entrance and General Office area.

Due to the review of services at Tywyn Hospital, there are going to be further refurbishments in 2007.  Dyfi Ward will have a further 6 beds whereas Dysynni Ward will become a Therapy Centre, incorporating Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy.

Medical cover is provided by the local GP surgery during the hours of 08:30 to 18:30 hours.  The care is then taken over by the Out of Hours Service.

The Minor Injuries Unit is open from 09:00 to 24:00 hours and is manned by a Clinical Practitioner.

Bronglais Hospital is the nearest District General Hospital.

All the management and services support are provided by the North West Wales NHS Trust whilst consultant, laboratory services and outpatient services are provided by Bronglais Hospital, part of Ceredigion NHS Trust (with the exception of Psychiatry).
