The department provides a comprehensive 24 hour Pathology Service including clinical advice for the acute and community hospitals and general practitioners in Gwynedd, Mon and parts of Conwy.

The main laboratories are situated in Ysbyty Gwynedd with a smaller multidisciplinary department at Llandudno General Hospital. The laboratory computer system allows full communication between sites and enables departments to collect and provide all relevant clinical and managerial information. Links have also been established with more than 30 general practices, allowing access to test results. This scheme, will be developed in future to include all GP practices using the laboratories.

Most wards at Ysbyty Gwynedd and Llandudno General Hospital have access to Clinical Chemistry and Haematology results via the ward based PCs.

A full range of diagnostic, histopathology and cytology tests are carried out in the department on the Ysbyty Gwynedd site.
