Smoke Free Trust

On 31 December 2006, the North West Wales NHS Trust became Smoke Free.  Smoking will no longer be permitted in Trust Buildings or within its grounds.

The North West Wales NHS Trust is committed to promoting health and reducing risk across all of its services.

Smoking is the single greatest cause of preventable illness and premature death.  It kills around six times more people in the UK than road traffic accidents (3,439), other accidents (8,579), poisoning and overdose (3,157), murder and manslaughter (513), suicide (4,066) and HIV infection (234) - all put together 22,833 (2002 figures).

Secondhand smoking, breathing in other people's tobacco smoke, has been medically proven to cause lung cancer and heart disease in non-smokers as well as many other illnesses and minor conditions.

Giving up smoking is not easy, but the benefits of giving up are vast.
