Overseas Visitors

The term overseas visitors refer to patients using NHS facilities who are not entitled to free treatment due to their status within Britain.  The vast majority of those who are ineligible are in the country on holiday.  All patients ineligible for free treatment either reimburse the Trust directly, pay for their treatment through insurance companies or have their treatment paid for by their own Governments.

Out of Area Treatments

The term out of area treatment refers to patients using local NHS facilities where the Trust does not have a contract to treat them.  There patients are generally from outside the North Wales area and require emergency treatment.  The Trust identifies these patients and seeks reimbursement from their main Local Health Board or Primary Care Trust commissioners.
