
Elidir Renal Unit The Elidir Renal Unit is presently run by Braun Avitum UK Ltd and has been operating in partnership with the NHS since 1985. The purpose built Unit on the grounds of Ysbyty Gwynedd in Bangor was opened in 1998 and provides a comprehensive dialysis service for over 100 patients which includes: The Nephrology Department has forged a close link with the Sport, Health and Exercise Science Department in the University of Wales Bangor. The department has embarked on two research projects in the last 2 years: The projects were funded by grants from the North West Wales NHS Trust's Research & Development Department and the National Kidney Research Foundation. At least 6 papers were accepted for publication in high impact medical journals. There are two Consultant Nephrologists based at Ysbyty Gwynedd who share 20 beds on Hebog Ward. They provide a comprehensive acute and chronic kidney failure service including full access service for temporary and long-term dialysis lines and surgical and percutaneous insertion of peritoneal catheters. The outpatient clinics are provided at Ysbyty Gwynedd (4.5 weekly clinics) and Llandudno General Hospital (1 clinic fortnightly). |
