Mr Elfed W Roberts, QPM, MPDE, BA (Hons), FCMI

Born and brought up in Bangor, Elfed Roberts attended the city’s Friars Grammar School, before pursuing higher education at University College, Cardiff where he graduated in Philosophy in 1969.

He subsequently served for thirty years in a succession of ranks in the Gwynedd Constabulary and the North Wales Police before retiring from the post of Assistant Chief Constable in March 2000.

Whilst in service, in 1998 he became the recipient of ‘The Queen’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service’ – awarded in Her Majesty’s Birthday Honours List in June of that year.

Mr Roberts was appointed Chairman of the North West Wales NHS Trust in February 2005 - he had previously served as a Non-Executive Director of the Trust from 1 April 2003.  Prior to that date, and following his retirement from the Police Service, he had been a Non-Executive Director and Vice-Chairman of the North Wales Health Authority and Vice-Chairman of the Specialised Health Services Commission for Wales.  He is also a former Vice-Chairman of the Gwynedd Child Protection Committee and one of the two founding members of the North Wales Victim Support Scheme.

He was admitted as a Fellow of the Chartered Management Institute in 1993 and is a former Chairman and a current Vice-President of the Gwynedd Branch of the Institute.   Elfed is a member of the Council of the University of Wales Bangor and a member of the Institute of Healthcare Management.  He is also currently an Independent Assessor representing the Commissioner for Public Appointments in respect of National Assembly Government for Wales public appointments.
