Councillor Meurig Bowen Hughes BSc

Mr Meurig Bowen Hughes was educated at Llanrwst Grammar School and the University of North Wales, Bangor where he graduated in Physics and Chemistry. He was a Chemistry teacher at various schools before being appointed to the staff at Llangefni Comprehensive School where he became Head of Science and, later, Deputy Headmaster.

He has extensive experience of local government, having been the first Mayor of Llangefni Town Council, a member of the Isle of Anglesey Borough Council as well as an elected member of the Isle of Anglesey County Council. Mr Hughes has served as Chairman of the Isle of Anglesey Community Health Council. He is also a former Chairman of the Welsh Association of Community Health Groups.

His other interests include membership of various local literary societies and groups and for the past ten years he has been Chairman of the Cefni Angling Association.
