JARGON BUSTER: B            
 
Barium X-ray    A diagnostic test where barium, which shows up on X-rays, is swallowed or given as an enema
Basic Life Support (BLS) Emergency treatment given to re-start breathing and circulation
Bilateral On both sides
Biopsy A small sample of tissue taken for diagnosis
Bladder The muscular sac that holds urine drained from the kidneys
Blind Trial A blind trial is one in which you are not told which treatment your child is being given.  This stops you and your child being influenced by your expectations of the effects of the treatment
Blood Cholesterol The measure of fat intake to the body.  High levels are linked to narrowing of the coronary arteries
Blood Count A test that estimates the numbers of each type of blood cell in a small sample
Blood Group People's blood can be classified into one of four groups (A, AB, B, O) depending on the particular proteins present
Blood Pressure (BP) The pressure at which blood is flowing around the body
Blood Transfusion The method of transferring blood donated by one person into another person
Bone Marrow The spongy substance in the middle of some bones where blood cells are made
Bone Marrow Aspirate A small sample of bone marrow taken for diagnosis
Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) The method of transferring bone marrow donated by one person into someone who's bone marrow has failed
