02/02/2005 - Building work at Ysbyty Gwynedd

As part of the work to build new clinics and new training facilities for doctors at Ysbyty Gwynedd, the main entrance doorway to the hospital will be temporarily closed and visitors will need to use the Deiniol Day Hospital entrance instead.

As from Saturday, 7th February, new signs will direct visitors to the alternative entrance, which is immediately to the right of the main doorway as you approach the hospital.

The hospital’s reception desk will stay in the main foyer, and will be easily reached and signposted from the temporary entrance.

Mr Keith Thomson, Chief Executive of the North West Wales NHS Trust said: “When the hospital was first opened in 1984 the Outpatient Department was expected to deal with about 45,000 patients a year.

“This year however, more than 132,000 are expected to be seen as outpatients which is nearly three times as many as was originally intended. The new clinics will allow us to provide a better environment for treating patients and for staff to work, including larger clinic rooms in which medical students can receive clinical training.”

The building work for all the developments is expected to last until December 2004. The new clinics are due to be open by April 2004, and the new facilities for training doctors at Ysbyty Gwynedd, as a part of the new north Wales Medical School is due to be completed by December 2004.

The new main entrance will be open by December 2004.
